Woodstock Pilot's View Shiraz, McLaren Vale, Australia.

Deliberately made to accompany food by expressing soft, generous fruit characters without dominant oak influence, Pilot’s View is sourced entirely from vines planted on sandy Blewitt Springs soils at Woodstock.

Warm, sunny days and cool nights ensure the berry flavours fully ripen while retaining good natural acidity. This combination of sandy soils and natural acids creates animated floral aromas in Shiraz. With traditional winemaking and careful barrel selection, the supple tannins are well integrated and support the juicy Shiraz flavours.

Reviews of Woodstock Pilots View Shiraz:

David Ridge - The Adelaide Review March 2011

The "Pilot’s View" was that of Scott Collett’s dad Doug, a character, a McLaren Vale legend and World War II Spitfire pilot. It could only be a Shi-raz to celebrate him. This is real McLaren Shiraz, with the rich fruits of blackberry and plums, underlaid with the dark earth elements. It’s a lot of wine, but deliberately no blockbuster. With long, even juiciness, the oak is there but throttled back, the whole thing is tempered with careful attention fine savoury tannins to authenticate the aim that it’s a wine for food. Even the glossy oak mantle works well here, adding a delicious layer to a tasty, fresh and lively red. Just the right price to pour in restaurants all over the place and of all sorts of persuasions. Mine enjoyed its test run against a mild (ish) rendang. Easy.

Campbell Mattinson - Wine Front, October 2010

This Shiraz from Woodstock is only available "on premise" (i.e. only by stumbling across it on a restaurant wine list) which is a pity, because it's a lovely red.

It's hearty and rich but it's nicely finessed too. It tastes of blackberries and bright raspberries and carries a delicious clip of coffeed, vanillin, smoky oak. It's a very classy McLaren Vale Shiraz. There's a spot of spiciness and maybe even the odd truffle-like note. Tannin is very, very fine. I loved drinking it.
