2010 was an outstanding Chardonnay vintage. A warm dry spring set the tone for a healthy, well balanced crop. This was further enhanced by one of the warmest and driest summers on record, which allowed us to harvest the fruit as and when the flavours were at their optimum.
The de Mariscos decended from a William de Marisco (approximately AD1100), who was said to be one of the 35 illegitmate children of King Henry the First - thereby marking him, the King's Bastard.
The de Mariscos continued a rocky relationship with the monarchy in subsequent generations, ultimately ending with the tragic execution of a later William for piracy and his alleged involvement in a treasonous plot.
As de Marisco decendants, the family have achieved acclaim for their successes in making fine wines. They are proud to be one of the pioneering winemaking families of the world renowned Marlborough wine region.
Amongst the twisted vines of our ancestry were the families of de Marisco, who in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries inhabited the island of Lundy off the South-West coast of England. This wine honours one of their many stories.....
Aromas: Bursting with lively citrus and honey dew melon aromas, this beautifully complex wine also shows notes of grilled nuts and lightly toasted bread.
