The Kings Wrath Pinot Noir, Marlborough, New Zealand.

As de Marisco decendants, the family have achieved acclaim for their successes in making fine wines. They are proud to be one of the pioneering winemaking families of the world renowned Marlborough wine region.

Amongst the twisted vines of our ancestry were the families of de Marisco, who in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries inhabited the island of Lundy off the South-West coast of England. This wine honours one of their many stories.....

In 1242 and already under suspicion of piracy off the coast of England - one William de Marisco was implicated in an assassination attempt on King Henry the Third.

Found guilty of high treason, William and sixteen of his associates were sentenced to death. It is said that the King was so displeased with William, he even requested a special punishment be devised - "quartering".

Following his execution, the four parts of William's body were sent to the four corners of the Kingdom - as an example of what would happen to those incurring the full vehemence of the King's Wrath.

This wine needs a few minutes in the glass first to relax and begin to open up – then- a range of cherry, sweet cranberry and freeze-dried raspberry aromas – young, forward, generous; a touch of milk chocolate followed by sweet oak with smoky edges ensue. Smooth, soft and generous: The palate is filled with flavours of raspberry and dark cherry then a little more milk chocolate followed by sweet oak and oak spice then a hint of light dried herbs. The finish is juicy and quite long – in short a very tasty wine.

Supple and lithe, this pinot presents dark fruit flavours mingled with fine tannins and subtle oak spice. The concentrated silky velvet finish and balance of acid and fruit are testaments of the blend of these clones from this wonderful site.
