Domaine de Pellehaut has been owned and managed by successive generations of the Béraut family for over 300 years. Situated in the heart of Gascony, Pellehaut benefits from the region's wonderful microclimate, where the long, sunny, early autumn days (hence the name Eté Gascon Gascon Summer), are ideal for bringing the grapes to the stage of surmaturation whilst maintaining a degree of refreshing acidity. Eté Gascon is a fabulous sweet and fresh wine, dense and rich with intense yet subtle aromas.
wo brothers, Martin and Mathieu Béraut, tend this family estate, one of the oldest vineyards in the Gers (300 years old). They produce a range of Armagnacs as well as breeding cattle (Blondes d’Aquitaine), all this in harmony with a rich surrounding biodiversity. More recently, they have begun to produce a complete range of fresh, aromatic and easy-to-drink wines which are a pleasure to drink at any time of year. An estate run by two passionate winegrowers which is getting itself talked about more and more.
SURFACE - 180 Ha (red, white and rosé)
AVERAGE AGE OF VINES - 40 years
GRAPE VARIETIES - Merlot 40% - Tannat 60%
TERROIR - The vineyard is situated on three gently rolling hills. The red varieties are planted on mainly clay-limestone soils but the property also has a proportion of sand and clay, that produces very fine, aromatic whites.
WINEMAKING/MATURING - Made from the oldest plots on the estate (over 40 years old!) which yield few grapes, but highly concentrated ones. These vines are carefully tended in the summer to ensure that they are harvested at peak ripeness. After a few hours of maceration, the vat is "bled": this means that some of the juice is drawn off for fermentation at low temperature. The fermentation is stopped by cooling so as to retain some residual sugar for a perfect balance between freshness and sweetness. After clarification with clay and cold-stabilisation, the wine is filtered, then bottled.
VINTAGE 2014 :
TASTING NOTES - Light pink hue. Intensely fruity nose, surprisingly complex, with ripe fruit, jammy strawberry, quince jelly and discreet vanilla all coming through. The palate is sweet, soft and light. The weather conditions were ideal for ripening the Tannat, which is fruity and chewy. The strawberry-vanilla flavours go on and on… This rosé Eté Gascon 2014 will brighten up cocktails, foie gras and desserts.
AGEING - To drink young as well as within the 3 years following its vintage.
OWNER/COMMUNE - Famille Béraut / Montréal-du-Gers
