Château Puybarbe, a family estate owned by the Orlandi family since 1952, is perched on one of the highest hills of the village of Mombrier at the heart of the Côtes de Bourg appellation. Initially covering seven hectares, the vineyard has gradually grown in parallel with the family's efforts to plant the right grape varieties for the soil. A new chapter in the Château Puybarbe story began in 2000 when a new vatting room was built to enable the wines to be vinified and matured at the Château itself. The wines they yield are warm, complex and well structured, with tannins of great finesse.
“Puybarbe” is the name given to one of the highest points of the local land and offers a unique panoramic view as far as Bordeaux. The vines grow on undulating calcareous clay terrain which is highly prized for its orientation and the quality of the soils which has good natural drainage
Since everything starts with the vines, Chateau Puybarbe has adopted integrated farming techniques. Harvesting is done by machine to reduce harvesting times and to allow the grapes to be gathered in when ripeness is optimal. The vatting room is modern, with a sorting table, a mechanical transport system for the harvested grapes and stainless steel, temperature-regulated fermenters.
