vintage 2005 Godolphin still available.
Ben Glaetzer Anaperenna - Godolphin, Barossa Valley, Australia.
The story of Anaperenna ( the wine formally known as Godolphin).
Ben Glaetzer, the wine maker at Glaetzer Wines recalls a phone call from Shiek Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's barrister which goes along the lines of the following-; Hi Ben, we represent Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Maktoum and we will be contesting the Godolphin name in the Australian High Court (every five Years). It will cost you $200,000.00 to contest this, even though it is mere likely you will win. The Sheik is a strict Muslim and is not comfortable seeing the name of his Horse Stables on an alcoholic beverage.
Off course Ben ignored this, thinking the phone call was a prank. The next phone call changed his mind....
The irrate Barrister said "look my client has more money than God"! that line stuck in Ben's mind, forcing him to change the name.
Ironically the Godolphin 2005 being the last vintage made using the Godolphin label was "The best Wine I have ever made" said Ben Glaetzer.
The name Anaperenna has been inspired bt Anna Perenna, the Roman Goddess of the New Year.
The wine is a seamless fusion of two varieties; Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. An intriguing nose of chocolate, crushed herbs, cedar, blackberries and smoke leads into a tightly focused palate with fine grained tannin and incredible density.
The finish is fresh and lively with flavours that linger.
The high point for this wine 2004 was being declared The Great Australian Red in a national competition to find the best Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon blend in Australia. Godolphin 2004 was the overall winner and also took out the Openbook Trophy for the best wine under $50.00

"Nearly perfect stuff of legends" Robert M. Parker Jnr, in the Wine Advocate, USA, on the 2004 Godolphin.
