A very rare Scotch.
The Last Drop company was founded by three old hands in the liquor business who decided to bottle one by one, a collection of fabulous old casks from remote cellars scattered all over Scotland. Between them, Tom Jago, James Espey OBE, and Peter Fleck have over 120 years in the Scotch industry.
The Last Drop is a passion project for these seasoned pros. Their first offering is a bottling of 1,347 bottles of whisky distilled in 1960. When it reached 12 years it was blended and put back into Sherry casks where it stayed for 36 years, evaporating slowly until less than a third of the volume remained.
It has been bottled straight from the casks with no chilling, filtering or other additions.
It comes in a simple black presentation box which includes a descriptive booklet, a cork stopper for resealing the bottle, the bottle and a 50ml mini bottle. Each bottle is sealed for a driven cork and protected with hot wax
On the Nose: Big but balanced. Rich sherried notes, toffee and toastiness, then plums, prunes and dried fruit emerge followed by dark chocolate and crème caramel.
On the Palate: Rich, velvety texture. Distinct dryness and light oakiness lead then recede as sherried plum, prune, caramel nuances emerge as an integrated package of flavours, followed by dark chocolate and digestive biscuits.
To Finish: Rich, dried fruit, sherried notes, cherry jam, extending with distinct oakiness and toastiness.
This whisky is a perfect marriage of great malt and grain whiskies, none distilled later than 1960, some even older. Using somewhere in the region of seventy different malt whiskies - many from distilleries which now lie dormant or no longer exist - and twelve different grains, this blend has such complexity and balance that it can truly be classed a whicky of distinction. The richness of the resulting character is unrivalled.
