Domaine de Pellehaut has been run for more than 300 years by successive generations of the Béraut family. Today, the wines produced by Mathieu and Martin Béraut, two brothers with a passion for winemaking, never fail to win medals on the competition circuit. Their Chardonnay Fruit stands apart thanks to its purity and its characteristic but original aromatic complexity. Fresh and round, pure pleasure.
Two brothers, Martin and Mathieu Béraut, tend this family estate, one of the oldest vineyards in the Gers (300 years old). They produce a range of Armagnacs as well as breeding cattle (Blondes d’Aquitaine), all this in harmony with a rich surrounding biodiversity. More recently, they have begun to produce a complete range of fresh, aromatic and easy-to-drink wines which are a pleasure to drink at any time of year. An estate run by two passionate winegrowers which is getting itself talked about more and more.
The vineyard is situated on three gently rolling hills. The Chardonnay variety is planted on mainly clay-limestone soils but the property also has a proportion of sand and clay, that produces very fine, aromatic whites
Since the quality of any wine begins with the quality of the grapes, Pellehaut's vineyards benefit from continuous care and attention throughout the year. Yield control, grassing over, minimum use of insecticides following the lutte raisonnée principles, are all put in place to produce the best possible harvest at optimum ripeness. Harvesting is done by machine and, on arrival at the vat house, the grapes are drained before pressing in a pneumatic press. The resulting must is cleaned and a proportion goes into temperature-controlled vats, while the remainder is vinified in 225-litre oak barrels. Once selected yeasts have been added, the musts are fermented for an average of two weeks at low temperature (15°C). Once the alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wines are lightly racked and then left to mature on fine lees that are regularly stirred (batonnage). The final wine is a blend of vat and barrel wines that are fined and lightly filtered before bottling.
VINTAGE 2014 :
TASTING NOTES : Golden yellow colour. A beguiling nose which sweeps you off an a tour of the orchards of Gascony in summer, redolent of yellow-fleshed peaches and apricots. Well-integrated, balanced palate. This Chardonnay vintage 2014 has undergone partial malolactic fermentation which tempers its vigour and brings out its creamy texture. Aged on fine lees, partly in oak, which complements the fruit notes with vanilla aromas. A Gascon Chardonnay with the accent of Burgundy!
