Italy Tour Stop 1: The DIEVOLE Estate.

Home Delivery Wine recently took a tasting trip to Italy to find some new fantastic wines for our shop and online store. The first stop was DIEVOLE which is part of a network of wineries, all belonging to the Alejandro Bulgheroni Family.

The Dievole winery was our first stop in Italy for two nights, it was an unforgettable experience. The vineyard is nestled in the beautiful Tuscan hills, long known as “a little piece of heaven on earth”. During our time we learned so much about this vineyard and its tranquil surroundings.

Here wine and extra virgin olive oil have been produced for nearly a thousand years, often struggling in difficult climates. The “Chiantigiano” microclimate makes no exceptions for Dievole, where the winters are harsh and often snowy, and, after a few months of spring tranquillity, are followed by hot and sunny summers. Only at the end of September does the sun turn mild and the temperatures go down; slowly the landscape turns ablaze with autumn colours.

We were brought around the estate by a lovely lady Ola, who was fantastic at talking us through everything including what happens in the fermentation room and barrel cellar. During the tour we also had a chance to visit their historic cellar and sit at the exclusive Wine Club Room table where we tasted some of the finest Dievole wines including their latest Chianti Classico DOCG. When we arrived back to the wine shop we where greeted with a glass of Novecento Chianti Classico DOCG which was a lovely treat.

We then took day trips and visited the other neighboring estates up first was, Poggio Landi, a one hour drive from Dievole nested in the Montalcino hills, in one of the world’s most important terroirs. Here we tasted the Poggio Landi Rosso di Montalcino 2017 a fruity, refreshing and elegant wine, we cant wait for you to try this!

We then headed to the Podere BRIZIO estate which is right beside Poggio Landi. This estate is a pearl amongst the hills of Montalcino. Its living, healthy soil, rich in microbiological interactions, gives the wine a fresh and unmistakable flavour. This winery is known for producing long-lived wines of great elegance and finesse. Check them out!

Finally we moved on and spent some time at Tenuta Le Colonne winery, the estate is caressed by the sea breeze and enriched by volcanic and sandy soils, they produce fine wines in which balance blends with character. We now have a fantastic balanced and harmonious red wine available from Tenuta Le Colonne.
